I've never joined a fan club, and I don't write letters to celebrities. But upon listening to Zooey sing "Baby, It's Cold Outside" on Elf, I was instantly inspired to revisit my passion for musical performance...enough to write this note.
I've been a vocal and instrumental jazz fan since I was 6 - my first concert ever was Frank Sinatra at The Greek Theater in LA when I was about 10. Amongst my favorite female vocalists of all time are: Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Lena Horne, Judy Garland, Chris Connor, and Keely Smith. When I heard Zooey's voice in Elf, I was blown away. It is a sound that I have not heard from a female vocalist in many years. Although Zooey's first love may be acting, I have not felt this strongly about someone's talent in an extremely long time. Not that my opinion carries any weight, but I feel that if Zooey recorded a Jazz standard album (maybe combined with original material), it would easily be a huge success. She blows Norah Jones out of the water, and I like Norah. Zooey has such raw singing talent, that she could establish a singing fan base with relative ease.
I understand she sings in a group, but there doesn't seem to be any info on performances. If there was some type of calendar or e-mail update, I would be at every show (whenever I was in town) and I would spread the word about this incredibly vocally talented woman like wildfire.
Zooey's voice is beautiful and melodic, and it is a breath of fresh air in today's world of digitally enhanced and marginally talented musicians. PLEASE record an album, and PLEASE let the public know when she (or her band) plays in LA.

I think she is a really great actress. I too am an actor, but not as big as her. But if I ever do make it big, I would love to be in a movie with her.
